Education & Outreach Staff Associate (Part-Time)

  • TGRCNM seeks a mission-driven, learning-centered, and empathic Education & Outreach Staff Associate who will welcome the challenge of assisting our Director of Education in developing, implementing, and expanding the Center’s training curricula and education and outreach initiatives to elevate and accomplish the Center’s mission.

    You will develop deep connections with the Center’s direct service programs and staff to inform, guide, and enhance training curricula. You will also participate in our direct outreach programming, and will be an apprentice trainer for the Transgender Cultural Fluency trainings.

  • Salary: $16.00 - $17.50 per hour; additional pay available for bilingual speakers

    Hours: Not to exceed 20 hours per week

    Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico

    Travel: 5-25%, depending on public health restrictions

    Reports to: Director of Education

  • Training

    • Participates in the development, improvement, and delivery of the Transgender Cultural Fluency and Transgender 201 training curricula.

    • Assists with the identification, recruitment, and development of volunteers with the Education Dept.

    • Responds to, organizes, and schedules all inbound and recurring training requests.

    • Works with training recipients to plan and finalize all logistics; maintains proactive communication with training recipients to ensure a smooth and successful experience.

    • Prepares and provides relevant advance and in-person training materials.

    • Collaborates with Drop In Center Program Managers to inform and enhance training curricula.

    • Participates in coalition and other collaborative engagement opportunities to proactively engage the community in training opportunities.

    Education & Outreach

    • Participates in legislative advocacy efforts by supporting the development of messaging, training community advocates, and educating stakeholders.

    • Creates print and digital educational content for distribution to in-person and online audiences.

    • Assists in the organization of legislative days of action, council and school board meetings, and hearing testimony opportunities, whether in-person or online.

    • Attends tabling opportunities for TGRCNM and assists other staff and volunteers in staffing these events.

    ​​Program Administration

    • Submits timely travel and supplies expense reports, invoices for training, and generates A/R reports to track and follow up on outstanding receivables.

    • Collects and maintains accurate data on participation and outcomes of the training program and education and outreach initiatives.

    • Assists in the development of reports and visuals demonstrating the participation and outcomes of the training program and education and outreach initiatives; provides metrics for all reporting and fund development requirements.

    • Culturally responsive education and learning aptitudes to build connections with a wide variety of audiences.

    • Knowledge (preferably personal) of transgender lives and experiences, including but not limited to health, family and relationships, education, employment and basic needs, and present and historic discrimination.

    • Knowledge of interventions, practices, and policies for improving the lives and wellbeing of transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming people.

    • Knowledge and experience with designing well-structured and fit-for-purpose training curricula to achieve organizational goals and meet varied delivery requirements (e.g., face-to-face, online, hybrid).

    • Working knowledge of transgender social, cultural, and political movement history.

    • Working knowledge of program management and development, including reporting outcomes and metrics, and creating content for fund development efforts.

    • Working knowledge of the latest training trends with a commitment to continued learning and improvement.

    • High degree of emotional intelligence–particularly the ability to regulate one’s emotions and exhibit empathy.

    • Exemplary organizational, time, and task management skills.

    • Strong commitment to advocating on behalf of marginalized and disconnected communities.

    • Compassionate and caring; able to see everyone as capable of learning and changing their heart and mind.

    • Strong ability to collaborate and communicate with people from varied life experiences.

    • Commitment to working alongside staff, volunteers, and community members.

    • Experience interrupting/challenging bias and discrimination among staff, volunteers, community partners, and/or training participants; ability to develop/encourage people in a manner that promotes equity and inclusion.

    • Outstanding spoken and written communication skills; ability to convey TGRCNM’s strategic vision to training participants, trainers, volunteers, and community members.

    • Flexible and adaptable; must work well in changing situations.

    • Technologically savvy; high level of proficiency with presentation and publishing applications (e.g., Canva, PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides, Adobe Creative), web conferencing/ collaboration platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams, WebEx), budget and expense management applications (e.g., QuickBooks), and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Discord).

    • Spanish-language proficiency is a plus.

    • Work environment: TGRCNM’s brick and mortar location is the Drop-In Center - an environment of high stress and fast pace of crisis intervention. The protocol for safety and security is a priority. Use of phones, in-person assistance, computer, fax, and other general office machinery.
